Every time I hear this song the hairs on my neck stand on end.. what a wonderful tale. Once a performer passes it really makes their music all the more special..

So cool to this day. I love the song and adore the man that wrote it. I play this song everytime I do an acoustic set in some club but never to the impact that Harry gave it.
And I have to ask, like the Jim Croce vids, does anyone know who the great musicians were that were backing him??? So cool thanks so much for sharing this vid.

@Lewismadmax And a VERY special thanks to YOU for sharing this wonderful video. I am so happy to see young people coming to this video and enjoying Harry’s music. I know that would have delighted Harry just knowing that his music has crossed generations. His energy and enthusiam for whatever he did was contagious and his spirit lives in his beautiful songs.

I wish modern musicians (Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers, other atrocities) could tell stories like Harry.

How many of us guys now in our 50’s or better have become that taxi driver, whether we know it or not in one way or another!! That’s the power of nostalgia and the greatness of this song some 38 years later in life. You can’t tell me you don’t think of yourself as Harry now as you listen to this song and wonder where the years went??

One of the best musical evenings was seeing Harry and his brother Tom perform at the Riverboat in Toronto. During the show Harry pulled out his notebook of songs he had just written to try them out in front of an audience. Those songs eventually ended up on Living Room Suite. The show was awesome. Around 2 am the club actually had to tell Tom and Harry to wrap it up because they had to close. They had played from about 11pm to 2am. It was an incredible and intimate show that I will never forget.

I saw Harry Chapin swallow a goldfish for charity at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! It was sometime in 1976 I think.
