    try to hold it in a totally closed box and make sure to surround the fishing pole very well by clothes to prevent break it.

    Get a small length of PVC tubing, just big enough to take the pole. Also get 2 end caps… and don’t put them on solidly until the inspectors can look at what is in the pipe… then… it will take a few hammer blows to take one end off when you get it home.

    See if you can get on of those plastic fishing rod holders and put it in your checked baggage.
